Which one is fairest depends on the bill. Here is when each makes sense.
Everyone pays the same share. The default for most bills — a dinner, a cab, a shared subscription — because it needs no discussion at the table.
An $84 dinner split four ways is $21 each.
Give each person their own figure, either as an amount or as a ratio. Use amounts when you already know what each person owes, and a ratio when one person should simply pay more — a bigger room, a longer stay, two people sharing one spot.
A $3,200 rent in a 2:1:1 ratio is $1,600, $800 and $800.

Enter the total, add everyone’s name, and pick how to divide it — equally, unequally, or item by item. The calculator works out each person’s share, and you can share the result as a link so nobody has to take your word for the maths.
Two ways. By amount, you type what each person owes and the total has to match. By ratio, you give each person a weight — 2:1:1, say — and the bill is divided in that proportion. Ratios are easier when nobody knows the exact figures but everyone agrees on who owes more.
Item-wise, when the orders were very different — a vegetarian who skipped the drinks should not subsidise the rest of the table. Equally is fairer than it looks when everyone ate roughly the same, and it is far quicker.
Use an unequal split by ratio. Weight each person by room size or by what you have agreed — 3:2 for a large room against a small one — and the rent divides in that proportion every month.

The split travels inside the link itself — nothing is stored on our servers. That means anyone holding the link can open it, so treat it like the bill itself: fine to send to the people in the split, worth thinking twice before posting publicly.
