Expense apps for couples

Shared expense trackers for couples, compared.

Couples money apps come in two shapes. Some put both of your bank accounts on one screen. Others keep a fair ledger of what is shared, and leave each account alone. Which you want depends on whether you are merging finances or just sharing a life.

We make Splitkaro, one of the four apps below.

The short answer

Splitkaro if you keep separate accounts and want joint, split and personal spending in one couple group, free. Honeydue for a free shared view of linked bank accounts, Monarch for a paid household dashboard with budgets and goals, Splitwise if you only want a running balance.

Splitkaro

That’s us

Joint, split and personal money in one couple group

  • Tag each expense as joint, split or personal; personal stays private
  • Rent, loan payments and subscriptions set once and logged every month
  • One summary across joint, split and personal, for each of you and for both
  • A chat inside the group, so the question sits next to the expense
  • Item-wise splitting for the bills you do not share evenly
  • Works offline, syncing when you are back online
  • Free unlimited expenses, and no ads even on the free plan
  • No budgets, goals or net worth
  • Card and bank feeds through Plaid are still in beta
  • Custom categories and expense search are Premium
  • No web app beyond view-only shared links

Questions, answered

What is the best shared expense tracker for couples?

It depends on whether you are merging money. Splitkaro if you keep separate accounts and want joint, split and personal spending in one place, free. Honeydue for a free view of both of your linked banks. Monarch if you want a paid dashboard with shared budgets and goals.

Is there a free app for couples to split expenses?

Splitkaro and Honeydue are both free. Splitkaro is free for unlimited expenses; Honeydue is free with optional tips. Splitwise is free with a daily limit on expenses and ads.

Can my partner see my personal expenses?

Not in Splitkaro: personal expenses in a couple group stay private to you. Honeydue lets each of you choose how much to share. In Monarch, both partners see everything in the household.

Is Splitwise good for couples?

For a simple balance, yes. It has no couple-specific features, though, and the free plan caps how many expenses you can add each day, which couples who log every grocery run tend to hit. See the free Splitwise alternatives →

What happened to Zeta?

Acorns acquired Zeta in June 2025, and its website no longer loads. Honeydue and Monarch are the closest couples apps still running.
